For Spring/Summer 2012, Opening Ceremony continues its journey through summer music festivals around the world. Inspired by major performing art celebrations in England, Argentina, and the United States, the Women’s collection features fresh color-blocking, ginghams, and stripes in a palette of juicy, eye-popping colors and their softer pastel counterparts.
This season explores oversized geometric patterns with decidedly playful facets, including fluorescent leathers, metallic shirting, and beaded fringes in teal and sienna hues. Custom prints are realized on silk, twill, and crepe de chine.
To create the perfect juxtaposition of sweet and tough in outdoor festival attire, the collection combines super feminine details, such as petal-shaped and scallop hems, ladybug enamel hardware, and vintage-inspired crocheted doilies, with military-like silhouettes and rugged elements. Highlights of the collection include raffia sleeve varsity jackets, smocked ruffle tube tops, silky cat-eye boxy tees, floral lace babydoll and kaleidoscope crochet dresses, pencil skirts with leopard embroidered patches, crochet shift dresses, pleated scallop shorts, and workers’ overalls with metallic embellishments. Opening Ceremony also launches the second season of its denim program, with flare, skinny, and straight leg silhouettes in classic washes.
Accompanying the Opening Ceremony Women’s SS12 collection is an assortment of colorful footwear, ranging from sandals with snakeskin straps and wooden heels painted and carved by hand, to high-heeled shoes adorned with flower-shaped enamel, to suede lug-soled sandals in pops of sorbet colors.
Opening Ceremony Women’s 2012 collection will be available in select retailers beginning in February 2012. Opening Ceremony was founded in September 2002 in New York by Carol Lim and Humberto Leon with the idea of bringing their love of travel and fashion to a concept boutique.
